Improvisational Dance Performance

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with Meghen McKinley once again. Knowing her passion for improvisational dance, I believed her performance would truly bring my latest installation works to life. Both of us are deeply inspired by chance and improvisation, so I anticipated that she would artfully move within into the space while poetically engaging with the different layers of the installation.

Additionally, I wanted to involve fiber artist Cindy Houston in our project. My vision was to craft a wearable skirt from prints on Kozo paper, which Meghen could wear during the performance and making such a work wasn’t something I had experience with. Cindy's expertise in wearable works of art and her history of working with natural dyes and materials made her an ideal collaborator for us. In the end, we all had a hand at working on the wearable piece. I created the prints and stains, Cindy and Meghen both worked on the skirt construction and Cindy made the amazing pantaloons.

These images capture moments from the performance, which was featured as part of my solo exhibition at the Downing Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
